The must-have accessories for your DJI OSMO ACTION PRO.
Premise!
The creation of POV videos on YouTube is a cornerstone of my online presence. For that reason, I decided to dedicate this blog entirely to the piece of gear that makes them possible, along with its accessories: the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro.
I won’t go into the technical specifications of this action cam - there are dedicated spec sheets for that. What matters is that I bought it because I needed a camera that could: record in 4K, withstand the elements without worry, and record for hours without me even noticing it’s there.
On top of that, its portability made it the most appealing and intelligent choice for the kind of POV content I want to create. I’ll dedicate separate blogs to everything I use for my videos. For now, let’s move on.
I’ve seen many discussions about which accessories you should or shouldn’t use with this action cam. Here, I’ll simply go through what I personally use and what fits my workflow and needs.
The compactness of the Dji Osmo Action 5 Pro.

ND FILTER.
Let’s start.
One thing I absolutely cannot live without is this ND filter.
In short: an ND filter works like a pair of sunglasses for your lens, reducing the amount of light entering the sensor. When shooting at 30fps, according to the 180° rule, your shutter speed should be double your frame rate - so around 1/60.
Now imagine shooting at 1/60 in full daylight. Your highlights would be completely blown out and unrecoverable. The same happens without a proper ND filter.
There are many options out there, but I personally use this one because it’s adjustable. It doesn’t matter how intense the light is (even in a desert) you can control the density and cut down the exposure accordingly. There really isn’t a lighting condition this filter can’t handle.

CAGE.
Another accessory is this cage.
The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro is already extremely compact. The cage adds some bulk, but nothing that compromises its portability.
I use it for two reasons:
Protection in case of drops
Theft prevention
When I use the camera for POV, this is typically the mount I attach it to. Without the cage, it’s much easier to detach the camera. With it, removing it requires extra effort - enough that, unless someone uses both hands, it becomes significantly harder to pull off quickly.

SUPPORT SYSTEMS.
Since we’re talking mounts, I’ll briefly go over my support systems.
BODY STRAP.
This is the main one I use for most POV shots.
The advantage is stability: since it’s strapped tightly to my torso, it eliminates unwanted movement. The DJI is already well-stabilized, but minimizing physical motion improves consistency.
However, it’s quite invasive. It’s essentially a harness, so you won’t go unnoticed. It also requires adjustment and setup, which is mechanical and slightly annoying. In hot weather, it can also make you sweat more due to reduced breathability.

NECK MOUNT.
Another support I’ve recently added is this neck mount.
It’s rigid and well-balanced, so it doesn’t wobble excessively. Even in hot weather, it’s more comfortable and less sweaty than the body strap.
The only downside is positioning: the camera sits slightly higher, around upper chest level instead of sternum level. This makes it more visible, and I’ve noticed it attracts more attention.
Here you’ll need to decide your trade-off:
The body strap feels more “professional” and controlled
The neck mount feels more casual, but more visible and tourist-like
Comfort vs discretion. It’s your call.

BATTERIES.
Let’s talk about batteries.
As with all camera batteries, prices are often excessive, especially if you like putting everything into perspective.
I always use the same example: with the price of one original DJI battery (~$60), I can buy a flight between European cities (and still have change left).
That’s why I opted for a third-party set with two batteries and a charger. Honestly, I notice no difference in performance compared to the originals, except maybe slightly slower charging.
If you prefer original DJI batteries and charger, feel free: but in my opinion, it’s money poorly spent.

MICROPHONE.
Another accessory I recommend is this small microphone.
Although I rarely use it while out shooting photos, it’s what I rely on for recording voiceovers on my channel. It’s also perfect for situations where I can’t isolate my voice properly.
The DJI’s built-in microphone is actually quite good when the camera is facing you - I’ve used it while cycling or filming in chaotic environments, and my voice was still clear and understandable, even if not perfectly isolated.
This external mic is compact, affordable, and attaches magnetically to your clothing. It also comes with a charging case that holds two microphones and a receiver. When placed back in the case, it charges like a power bank.
Depending on your needs, this might be the best option you can get.
